First of all, I love Madrid. Its a place that I just have to visit if I'm ever in Europe. When I lived in Sevilla in 2004, Madrid was home base for me. When I needed some comfort, or family time, or just needed a break from school, I came here.
When I originally planned my Euro trip, I only had Frankfurt in mind. But then Dublin was added, and then Rome, and I just wouldn't have been able to forgive myself if I didn't make a stop in Madrid to say hi to my family and stop in for some amazing home cooked meals, jamon serrano, queso manchego, and copious amounts of red wine.
And, just my luck...I arrived just in time for rebajas, aka, for my english speaking friends, SALES! For the first 7 weeks of my travels, I didn't buy a single thing. But I have surely made up for it in the last few days. I went a little boot crazy (see picture above), but come one...each pair was, on average, 50 euros! Total steal!
And did I mention that they have some of the best leather in the world here in Spain. Quality like no other!
So, in the last few days, I have both instagrammed and tweeted with the hashtag #ilovemadrid, because dammit, I really really do love it here! If I could live here, I would in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, there are 6 million (that's, right, SIX MILLION) people out of work here and the odds of finding work are zero to none.
Dammit Spain...get your economy going again so that I can live here one day!!
