What a day! My first 24 hours in Beijing have been fantastic and I have learned so much already. Talking to my cousin about his 13 years experience of living in Beijing has been so educational and unbelievably interesting. And the coolest part of my time so far is that I got to see the famous Beijing 2008 Olympic village! It was amazing! So specatucalar and huge and detailed and the Bird's Nest did not disappoint.
I'm even a little embarrassed to admit this, but I was a little emotional as it all hit me as I was looking at the Bird's Nest that I'm actually here, seeing things that most people only see on TV, and living out these amazing 28 days in China. I can't even imagine how I'm going to feel when I come face to face with the Great Wall (which is tentatively scheduled for Monday).
I also saw the Water Cube where Michael Phelps won his 7 medals and just imagined how amazing it would be have been to see one of his races in person. Maybe I'm getting older, maybe I'm just learning to appreciate things more, or maybe it's because I've worked so hard to get to where I am that I'm just so freaking thankful for every single minute of this trip. And also for everything I'm learning and the inspiration I'm gaining by just opening my eyes to the world of possibilities that exist. It's weird how seeing something like a stadium in a different country can make you see the world in a different light. Corny, but true.
