My boy is 30 today. And almost as if the email gods were on my side, I was sent this picture of him right in time. I have no idea how old he was in this school pic. He looks around 7 years old to me. The picture quality however makes me think that it was taken during WWII. I'm making him dinner tonight. And tomorrow we're going out for Chilean food. It's going to be a good birthday weekend.

today today:

• I'm bored with the internet.
• I'm so uninspired to write a stupid one-page paper.
• I'm amazed at how incredibly nice Taiwanese people are
• I'm trying to convince my social entrepreneurship classmates to do our project on Toms Shoes; a company that truly inspires me.
  
• I had lunch with a Peruvian and it was lovely to speak in Spanish
• I played Mario Galaxy when I should have been doing my Econ reading
• I wish I had Season 6 of Gilmore Girls on DVD
• I yoga-ed for the first time in a month. Namaste.

lacking that something

• Today I drank a regular Coke instead of Coke Zero. Some days I just need the extra calories.
• Business school is going to be an interesting ride. Good or bad, I can't decide quite yet.
• Matt's 30th birthday is coming up and I have NO CLUE what to get him.
• I already miss the days of being a full-time chinese student.
• I want a Flip UltraHD almost as badly as I want a puppy. Does anyone have one and can offer suggestions/thoughts/opinions? Thanks in advance.
• My Maggi's man found me a Polaroid camera. I wish I could give her and her man a long distance gratitude hug.
• I keep dreaming of going to Hong Kong. And Croatia. And Spain again.
• I want this first week of school to be over. I'm longing for the weekend.

the ring and a story

So this is my ring. It's a custom made, 6 prong, milgrain design, with pave diamonds on three sides. The design I chose was inspired by Bvlgari's 125th anniversary ring that I fell in love with (and obviously couldn't afford). I love the way it turned out. The four month wait was totally worth it.

So did you notice the blue finger? So the day after picking up my ring, I had a bit of a run-in with my rotary cutter. I accidentally cut off a chunk of my finger instead of cutting the pretty blue fabric that I was using for a baby quilt that I frantically trying to finish. Long story short, I was forced to go to the hospital after trying to act tough for the first 3 hours of gushing blood. The worse part was that the magic chemical-infused gauze thing that the doctor used to make it stop bleeding hurt more that cutting off my finger. So, to all my sewing friends out there...watch your fingers! Especially when you have JUST switched the blade.

So, I'm back in Taiwan now. Reunited with my boy. Reacquainting myself with the humidity. And doing all the prep-work and annoying paper work for my first week of business school. Today, I'm off to orientation. Wish me luck.

i'm seriously cold

Hello September. And hello chilly days. I had forgotten what fall felt like. So much so that I had to run out to J.Crew and the Limited to score some cute cardigans to keep warm. I was hoping to score some fall jeans too but I sadly failed at that mission. I did however try on some incredible gowns at Vera Wang this morning. I have no intention of actually buying the $4000 gown I fell in love with. I went there to merely get inspired. I'm thinking of designing my own dress when I get back to Taiwan. A very romantic and timeless dress, with a touch of vintage. We'll see how that goes. 3 more days in DC left. Catch me if you can.
