ode to lovely

I always feel productive on saturdays

Today, I...

1. Found my grandma's sunglasses and wore them around the house for no good reason.
2. Took my parents out to lunch, also for no good reason.
3. Chatted with my best friend and felt sad afterwards knowing that I'm going to miss her so much once I move.
4. Took 34 mirror shots in my sister's room.
5. Wore my favorite comfy green shirt from Target.
6. Tried free-motion quilting for the first time. And dude. It's hard.

In other exciting news....I bought my very first sewing machine today. And she is a beauty. I've had the luxury of using my mom's machine since highschool. But now that I'm moving away, it was time to grow up and buy my own. I can't wait to take her out of the box and show her a good time.

Thank you for the amazing support regarding the move. Everything is definitely crazy around here. My entire life has to be packed up and shipped out in less than a week (even though I'm not leaving until late May). Once I get through this hurdle, I know that I'll be able to breath easy again.

About a year ago, Matt and I came up with a crazy dream. We craved the unfamiliar. And we craved adventure. And so, we started to dream big. And I mean REALLY big. And for a while, we kept this dream alive. But then reality started to hit us. And our big dream started to downsize. And we were forced to accept the fact that our big dream was probably not going to come true.   

Until one random day, when our big dream was re-awakened. And possibility started knocking on our door again. And big things started happening. Resumes got in the hands of the right people. Interviews were scheduled. Plane tickets were purchased. And after a ton of hard work and dedication, an amazing opportunity was offered. 

And so my friends, Matt and I are moving. To Taipei, Taiwan.

We are scared shitless. And very, very nervous. But above all, we are extremely happy and excited. And we are so thankful for all the support we have had so far.

So I guess now you know why I quit my job. Word.   

hmmm, let's see here

It was a good weekend. Let's review it, shall we? And in list format, of course.

1. I finished sewing my quilt top. I named her Bella. Because she turned out to be quite a beauty.
2. I scrapped two pages. They can be seen here and here.
3. I added to the daily book, but failed to take pictures of such additions.
4. I had dinner at Willow, with my lady friends. Highly recommend this restaurant.
5. I had a major spring cleaning day. And by cleaning I mean, EVERYTHING must go. I might have to have a cyber yard sale soon. I am seriously considering this idea.
6. I watched my alma mater, GMU,  get their asses handed to them by Notre Dame. So much for Cinderalla Story Part Two. Sigh.

And in other news.....

I QUIT MY JOB TODAY!!!!

Do you have any idea how happy I feel right now? Any idea, whatsoever? Oh man, this is such a great fantastic feeling!

Obviously, I'm not a crazy lady who just quits her job for no reason. More details to follow!

Bad:

• The amount of work on my desk
• No time for crafts
• My fave high heels are donezo
• Lacking motivation

At least my good list is longer than my bad list. For that, I'm happy.

A funny conversation with my mom is now documented for all to see.

And speaking of my mom, today is her birthday. So happy birthday to the most generous mom in the entire world. To the woman who always puts her family first. To someone who has taught me every bad word in the spanish language. And to the person who makes me laugh on a daily basis. I love you mommy. May your day be a happy one.

to love another

Part one. Cut, cut, cut.

Part two. Sew, sew, sew. 2.5 rows done. 7.5 more to go.

I though I could never love another quilt, like I loved my first one. But I was so wrong. This one had me at hello. This one melts my heart everytime I see it. I get so giddy just looking at it. And the sad part is, I have decided to give this one away. It screams of my sister. These are her colors. These are all patterns she would love. So, this beauty will be her welcome home present when she returns from Spain. And because I am making this for her, I nominate myself for "best sister of the year" award.

not so lovely after all

Remember that lovely Saturday I said I was going to have? Well, not so much.

My tire blew out on 395. Like, huge explosion blow out. So I'm trying to stay calm. And I remembered that once upon a time my daddy showed me how to fix a flat. So, I get out of my car, go to to the trunk to grab my spare....except it WASN'T THERE.  WTF?!?!

Then, a random scary looking dude just walks by my car. Ok, mind you I'm on 395 and not some back road. Ten minutes later, a cop pulls up behind me (a sight I am very much used to).  He asks me about the random dude, I tell him what I know, then he pretty much suggests that the creepy dude is in fact creepy, and to keep my doors locked. At that point I start thinking that if the tow truck doesn't hurry up, then I'm going to end up being a missing person. 

Luckily, four hours later, I finally made it home safely. BUT...to make matters more annoying, the power at my house had gone out due to the storm. I had no car, no power, no food, no nothing. I ended up just going to bed out of pure boredom. And that, my friends, was my pathetic Saturday afternoon/evening.

Off to ballet class. Then to Paper Source. Then home to quilt for the rest of the afternoon. It is going to be a lovely saturday. Full of tondu's, releve's, pretty paper, and designer fabric. Lovely, indeed.

I want one so badly

Ever since I can remember I have LOVED trampolines. It probably stems from my gymnast days. But the love for jumping has remained even long after retiring my stretchy leotards. The last few days I have been actively seeking one in the DC area. So far my craigslist searches have fallen short. It's probably a good thing, because 1. they are expensive and 2. my parents would freak.  My goal this weekend is to find some neighborhood kid who has one, and pay them $20 to let me jump. I'll let you know how it goes.

all is well

Life is good. Incredibly busy, but oh so good. Matt and I have been really enjoying our time together. We've been trying new restaurants, going out with friends, drinking beers, and just loving life.

Other things that are making me happy:

• Convincing Magaly that scrapbooking is cool
• The possibility of going to Lisbon
• My new split sole jazz sneakers
• Emails with old friends
• Re-discovering the art of dance
• Long naps after work
• That my nails are all one length
• Feeling sore from killer workouts
• That our dreams might be coming true

Happy hump day. Go out and grab a beer with a friend. And celebrate today.
